What Your Type Style Says About You, Part One

Our Crane Concierge receives quite a number of queries from correspondents about what type style they should use for their personalized stationery, wedding invitations, etc. And while there are certainly guidelines for pairing the proper type style to the occasion, one’s personality should also help dictate how text will appear on paper.

Below is a sampling of type styles and the type (no pun intended) of person who may fancy such a style. For those of you who would like to use a similar style on our paper, we have also provided the codes for the lettering that best matches each one.

I used to work as a custom printing specialist for a stationery retailer and it surprised me how unwilling customers — specifically Crane and Co. loyalist were so unwilling to change their typestyle. With so many options, most kept it the same type they’ve used for years. I had some customers who almost broke a sweat considering it and then “chickened out.” For my customers who already had dies — during your free promotion, I’d try to get them to try a new type and expand their wardrobe. Some of my customers were more brave when it came to their kids thank you notes.

    Don’t get me started on motifs… :)
