Two Thumbs Up for Elle and Maggie

I don’t often do book reviews, but every now and again one comes along that is so much fun that I want as many people to know about it as possible.

As you can see, the book is written by etiquette expert Mindy Lockard, who writes The Gracious Girl blog, with her Delightful Daughters Elle and Maggie. Mindy is also the illustrator. (By the way, I just learned that Maggie is under the weather. She’s doing OK, but could always use some well wishes: http://www.mindylockard.com/blog/?p=15157).

In her Forward to the book, Mindy says:

As an etiquette consultant and mom, I know how important having well-mannered children is to you. I also know how tricky the the teaching process can be. The road to helping our children practice good manners can be paved with embarassing public moments and that nagging feeling that we’ve become a broken record. But please don’t give up! The outcome is well worth the effort, and our children will thank us one day.

The teaching moments in Elle and Maggie Make New Friends revolve around:

I’m not going to give all the details away, so you’ll have to trust me that this book is a great read and great teaching tool for moms, dads and their children. It also – unfortunately – provides excellent guidance for grownups who’ve forgotten some of the easiest and most important ways to convey courtesy and respect.

To get your copy (and maybe you could get a signed copy like mine)

go to Mindy’s website at http://www.mindylockard.com/boutique/39. It sells for $12.95 and $5 for shipping.

The word on the street is that Elle and Maggie will be writing a second volume soon, so stay tuned!
